Collective Response to Giving Up, the newest offering from artist Russell E.L. Butler is a presentation of a Techno abstract.

Over the years the financial and cultural pressures to produce and DJ a particular sonic expression of Techno have weighed heavily on this artist and their colleagues. Techno excited Russell as it presented them with an open, non-linear, progressive world, with Black People at the helm. As Russell progressed thru the troubled hierarchy of the electronic music business, they became increasingly aware of the conservative, colonial values that have permeated Techno and the power structure that facilitates it.

Borne partially out of frustration with this duality, as well as, capitulation to its inevitable conclusions, Russell presents Collective Response to Giving Up. An offering of what still interests them about Techno and its psychedelic, revelatory potential, whilst erring towards the accessible, the stayed, the today of it all.
