about

This release is my first experimental project in over 10 years. Part creative exercise, part self interest, this one has carried me through significant developments in my artistic process, as well as providing soft, nurturing, cathartic moments whilst this last year culminated in the cooling of a cycle that I've been challenged by the last three years.

This collection of pieces reflects the many affirmations that I have made to myself to love and care for myself, regardless of the difficulty of my circumstances. I feel more grounded in my being, my physical body, my presence and contributions on this plane, than I ever have in my life. This body has facilitated struggle, desire, lust, vulnerability, and an ever expansive experience of life. It feels constrained by the limited perceptions and structural violence enacted by the state, but it reaches for these special private moments to connect with my spirit and the spirit of others. Is this freedom?

I'm not going to answer that.

A Talisman To Ward Off Dysphoria is meant to sooth and to protect. In my travels, my body is challenged constantly. Navigating the gender roles and the restrictive identities that are projected onto me, continues to prove difficult. I know that others have the same struggle. I hope that this helps bring you back to yourself, so that you can continue to live, maybe even face the world some day.

I appreciate that you've made it this far in this missive, thank you. Here are some links to articles and books that I'm in the process of reading and digesting. They helped shape the project.
